Kyrgyzstan—literally meaning "we are forty," a reference to the forty tribes that formed the nation, symbolized by the forty rays of the sun on its flag—is a land where a nomadic lifestyle, centered on livestock herding, remains an integral part of the culture. A country worth visiting? Why not? It is one of those places that remains largely unknown and overlooked by Westerners—a land that evokes the Silk Road, caravans, yurts, steppes, and high mountains, home to vast glacial lakes that come alive during the summer transhumance.
